Margaret Hamilton

Born August 17th, 1936 in Paoli, Indiana

Main Contribution:

Hamilton is best known for leading the team that developed both the Lunar and Control Modules for the Apollo Missions.

Other Contributions:

• Coined the term “software engineer”
• Wrote code for the SAGE project
• Developed software to detect system errors in the Apollo missions

Academic Events

• Studied Mathematics and Philosophy at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana
• Briefly taught high school math
• Worked at MIT and programmed software to predict the weather
